2024 Brett Elizabeth Jenkins Poetry Prize

Ends on

Tinderbox is pleased to announce our 2024 poetry prizes, the Brett Elizabeth Jenkins Poetry Prize and the Majda Gama Editors’ Prize.

There are no limitations in form or content; we are interested in everything from traditional forms to free verse to lyric essay to flash fiction. The entry fee is $15 for 3 poems, 1 poem per page. Poems can be multiple pages as long as the total entry does not exceed eight pages.

Tinderbox readers and editors will read submissions, 15 of which will be passed on to our judge for their final decision. The judge will select the winner of the Brett Elizabeth Jenkins Poetry Prize. This year’s final judge is editor emeritus Jenn Givhan. The editors will select the Majda Gama Editors’ Prize winner from the remaining finalists.

The winners of each prize will receive $500. The winners and all finalists will be published in our Winter Solstice issue in December.

Please put all poems in one document, as only one document is permitted per entry.

Simultaneous submissions are permitted, but know that if your poem(s) or piece(s) are accepted elsewhere, we cannot refund your contest entry. We also cannot accept revisions on poems; you are welcome to withdraw the whole submission and resubmit. If you need to withdraw a poem due to acceptance at another publication, please leave a message in Submittable. Please only use the "Withdraw" feature if you need to withdraw the entire submission.

Please submit original work that has not appeared in any form, online or in print. If you are submitting a piece that is "After" another artist or writer, please acknowledge this somewhere in the work.

Please make certain all identifying material is removed from the manuscript.

All work submitted to this contest will be considered for publication in the Winter Solstice issue, published in December.

We look forward to reading your best work!

We use Submittable to accept and review our submissions.
